Best blues instruction book I’ve found.

Ross knocked this one out of the park. Very well written book that doesn’t assume that you are at any certain level to start. Great explanations of his reasoning in choosing these concepts. Also, the examples emphasize the note choices instead of the speed at which they are played. We all know that Ross can play fast, but he knows that we may not be able to, so his instruction is not an ego show but instead is a very sound foundation for interesting blues soloing. The book is of high quality, and the examples are all tabbed out very well. It gets you away from memorizing licks and actually teaches you how to get out of the box. The videos and backing tracks are a great practice aid too. I did his bulletproof guitar course too. Ross is one of the best and most modest teachers out there. You will learn from this book. Guaranteed.

 Great book!

I ordered the paperback version and am I glad I did. The quality of the book is up there with Cherry Lane and Hal Leonard tab books. NOT cheap at all. Ross’s forward is really inspiring and well written. The lessons are great and have helped me reinvigorate my playing since Ive been stuck for a while and getting bored with my playing. After 35 years playing this is the kind of book I want to refresh my memory on playing the notes and not just licks. I honestly cant believe this was only $20 bucks. He could charge 5 more and I would buy it. It now sits next to my favorites, Rikki Rooksby -How to write Songs on Guitar, and The Heavy Guitar Bible The first book i got as a kid in 85. Great work Ross!

Ross makes it easy and clear

I’ve watched many of Ross’ videos on YouTube and found his teaching straight forward and easy to understand. Many others on YouTube are clearly knowledgeable, but don’t translate that very well for the novice. Ross’ teaching is much clearer. Then when he promoted this book, I kind of wondered, how can you learn blues guitar through a book, but I decided to give it a go. Man, was it worth it! I’m only up to chapter 5, but I’ve already had my eyes open to things I never would have thought of. Playing the blues is getting much more fun, and less frustrating. And I just read at the conclusion of chapter 4, “not to worry if you don’t recognize some chord tones, we are only just getting started.” By the end of this book I’ll being saying, “John Mayer, move over!” (LOL)
