Yuji Kamihigashi is a swing guitarist from the Kansai region of Japan, and one of the world's most dedicated specialists in early jazz guitar. Inspired by the guitar scene in Back to the Future as a child, Yuji discovered the acoustic archtop world of Django Reinhardt's predecessors — guitarists like Eddie Lang, Carl Kress, Dick McDonough, George Van Eps, and Allan Reuss. Based in Osaka, Yuji is highly active as a guitar and ukulele teacher, performing regularly throughout the Kansai region and online. He is one of the very few guitarists in Japan — or the world — dedicated to this niche but historically rich genre. He has performed with all the major figures in Japan's early jazz scene. In August 2024, Yuji published his first book Early Jazz Guitar Chord Soloing through GuitarVivo — a landmark resource that makes the techniques of 1920s and 30s swing guitar accessible to modern players for the first time.
