Don Mock is one of the most influential figures in modern guitar education. As co-founder of the Guitar Institute of Technology (now Musicians Institute) in Hollywood, California, Mock helped build arguably the most influential contemporary guitar school in the world, teaching alongside legends such as Joe Diorio, Howard Roberts, Scott Henderson, Joe Pass, and Pat Martino. A fluent bebop voice with deep harmonic knowledge, Don blended the elegance of traditional jazz phrasing with modern ideas and fluid melodic invention. His improvisational techniques have been documented in numerous instructional books including Hot Licks, Artful Arpeggios, and his acclaimed Ten series for Warner Bros./Alfred. Beyond his educational legacy, Don was a gifted performer and recording artist who shared the stage and studio with top names in jazz and fusion. His two solo albums — Mock One and Speed of Light — showcase the depth and originality of his musical vision.
